"The Pope doesn’t come over to where you work and slap Jamie Dimon’s dick out of your mouth" made me guffaw.
Having been Catholic since… well, birth (what with the baptism and all) I really believe that the vast majority of Christians love and respect God…. until it fucks with their wallets. Hence the GOP. I saw a collective quizzical eyebrow raised in the Christian community when Pope Francis showed up on the scene. All worried that he might ask them to think of others and maybe spend that Half-Fat-Mocha-Ccino-Soy-Latte-Hold-The-Whip-With-EXTRA-SPRINKLES money on the poor. Their rationale being that they worked hard for what they had and other people were just lazy, because their being born white in middle class backgrounds with colonizing ancestors clearly had nothing to do with their current status. If other people just work harder at their sweatshop job in India maybe they could someday get promoted to management, or they’ll be beaten until their retinas detach. Somethin’ like that. In short, it is amazing how disdainful “God fearing” people get when they are told to give up a fraction of their ill gotten money and leisure time. I don’t know if these people who claim to read the Bible are reading some knock off abridged version they picked up at a flea market, but the Bible I was raised reading came off as a little anti capitalistic. Is it me? Was it just me? Seemed that way.
